The development of Inseparable - Bald Eagle Pair
Artist Comments
Bald Eagles mate for life. While contemplating this exceptional trait, my goal was to portray a mated pair of eagles in a way that would reinforce this unique fact. While also creating an overall pleasing shape.
The setting for this painting is representative of where I have been able to view a pair of nesting eagles in the wild. It’s an early spring day, late in the evening and winter has yet to relinquish its grasp. Filling the air with a light snowfall and a low flying misty cloud.
The eagle’s perch was distilled down to the curved shaped of the major limb, keeping only it’s tributary branches necessary to help divide the space and add interest, with its overall shape echoing the curves of the bald eagle’s head and beak.
While working on this piece I resisted the temptation to overplay the background and perch. I constantly reminded myself of one of my philosophies in constructing my art: “less is more.” This made it possible to keep the mated pair a dominant force in this painting.
